Why does the University request my social security number? How do I limit access to my social security number?

The social security number is requested as the best and most effective way to uniquely identify you for the purpose of accurately processing and maintaining your educational records. This number is restricted to internal University use for the following: matching admission applications with ACT or GRE scores, matching admission status with housing agreements or financial aid, maintenance of your academic record, providing loan verification, and obtaining transcripts before and after graduation. To request information on limited access of the social security number, please contact the Student Service & Referral Center, Moulton Hall, Room 107, Campus Box 2202, Normal, IL 61790-2202 or (309) 438-2188 prior to the tenth day of class.

How can I request student information for research or mailings?

Our guidelines for supplying names and address of students for lists/labels/diskettes are as follows:

  1. Authorized personnel may receive names, addresses, etc. in list/label/diskette format for majors, minors, second majors and minors within their department.
  2. Any department may request names and addresses of Undeclared Students, Unclassified Students, or Students-at-Large.
  3. A college may receive names and addresses of all students with first or second majors, or first or second minors within their college.
  4. A student organization that is registered with the Student Life and Programs Office may receive names and non-restricted addresses. Names and restricted addresses are provided when requested by a department sponsored Honors Society or when requesting a current membership list. The membership list should be supplied by the organization's department advisor.
  5. Departments may have access to lists/labels/diskettes of students with majors in other departments or colleges (does not include Undeclared and/or Unclassified Students) after providing this office with a copy of the letter or document to be mailed to the students. The sample letter or document should include a written notation of approval by the chair or dean of the department or college whose students will receive the mailing.

What is my UID?

Current students can view their UID on their Redbird Card or log on to the iCampus Portal at www.icampus.ilstu.edu/.  They may also visit the Student Service and Referral Center, 107 Moulton Hall, with a photo identification and their UID will be provided.
