Certification Outside Illinois

If you are planning on teaching in another state you will still need to process your Illinois Teaching Certification application. For those students intending to teach outside of the State of Illinois:

1. Complete the regular teacher certification program.
2.  Apply for your Illinois Teaching Certificate  via ECS or paper form
3. Register your certificate at any ROE.
4. Contact the Department of Education (DOE) in the state you intend to teach in & complete their paper work.
5. Documents requiring official confirmation of your teacher education training or entitlement program should be sent [mail or fax] to the Evaluations Office [Campus Box 2202 or fax 309-438-2338].
• Make sure to include your full name [including maiden name], UID, birth date, & graduation date.
• Include the address of where the document(s) need to be sent – your home address, the State Department of Education, etc.
• Out-of-State certification papers will be returned to you or the DOE via US Mail.  These documents cannot be returned via fax or email.  Allow 1-2 weeks minimum for processing.
• If the document is to be returned to the DOE, make sure all of your information is complete.
6. Documents requiring information regarding No Child Left Behind legislation, teacher testing, master teacher status, etc. need to be directed to the Illinois State Board of Education
